My name is Angelica Smith, and I am from the South Side of Chicago. In May 2016 I earned my B.A. in Criminal Justice from Indiana University (IU), and returned here to pursue my M.S.Ed. in Higher Education & Student Affairs. In undergrad I had fun and enriching leadership experiences and cultivated meaningful relationships with supervisors, mentors, and advisors. When I worked for the Groups Scholars Program, a federally funded initiative that supports the development of underrepresented students at IU, I knew I wanted to work in student affairs as a professional and that my purpose was to transform the way in which we engage with access, retention, development, and support of underrepresented students in higher education. As I end my graduate experience and begin a professional career, I plan to continue engaging with, impacting, and supporting future leaders, thinkers, and change makers.
