Da’Shaun Scott is a second-year graduate student in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program at Indiana University. He is also receiving a graduate certificate in education law. Da’Shaun is from St. Louis, Missouri. He received his Bachelor’s in Business Communication and Human Resource Management from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. His assistantship is in Residential Programs and Services as a Graduate Supervisor for Forest Residence Center. In Spring 2017, he did his practicum in the Kelley School of Business as an Academic Advisor. Last year, he served as the Presidential Intern for American College Personnel Association (ACPA) President, Donna Lee. Currently, he is the Vice-President of Indiana University’s Black Graduate Student Association

Da’Shaun decided to enter the Higher Education field because he wants to make a positive and influential difference in the lives of future students like many of his mentors made in his life. He was also inspired by his mentors at his undergrad who helped guide and support him to have a future in higher education. His favorite part about the Indiana University’s HESA program is it has allowed him to engage in valuable discussion in the classroom and gave him the opportunity to put those conversations into practice in his assistantship and practicum experiences. After graduation, Da’Shaun would like to have a job in student activities, summer orientation, legal affairs, leadership development, or business services. His long-term goals are to get a Ph.D. and become a dean or president of an institution. His research interests are diversity and inclusion in Higher Education, male identifying victims of sexual assault, education policy, and the mental health of oppressed minorities (e.g., defined by race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity).
